5 New Features That Make Our MyGauge App Even Better

When it comes to construction and materials testing, time is money.

And inaccurate data? That’s a disaster waiting to happen.

For years, your nuclear gauge readings were locked to a single device, creating bottlenecks and delays. But what if every density reading, every moisture content measurement, is instantly shared, mapped, and reviewed by your entire team…in real time?

That is now a reality!

For the past year, our developer Pranav Prasad and the team have been working hard to improve the MyGauge nuclear gauge app for the Xplorer 2 and the MC-3 Elite (and now, the MyGauge App supports the NoNuke!). In this post, we’ll go over the newest updates to the app, including:

  • New onboarding process

  • Real-Time Project Visibility and Smart Reporting - PDF and CSV

  • Visual GeoLocation Gauge data on Maps - Satellite and Hybrid Maps mode

  • And more

Introducing Cloud-Based MyGauge

The biggest news is that the MyGauge app is now collaborative and cloud-based

If you're familiar with the cloud (think iCloud for your iPhone), you know it allows for instant sharing of information. Now, as soon as your nuclear gauge takes a reading, that information is immediately available in the cloud.

What does this mean for you?

You and anyone else in your organization can instantly view the reading and even see where it was taken. This update is all about providing real-time data and streamlining communication in the field.

Collaboration and Control: The Role-Based Access System

One of the most frequent requests we received was how to make the app more collaborative and allow administrators to view readings in real-time. Our team answered with a robust role-based access control system.

This system allows an administrator (like a Project Manager or RSO) to start an organization within the app. Technicians can then send a join request, and once approved by the admin, they gain access to all the organization's projects.

How It Works: A Quick Onboarding

  1. Download & Sign In: After downloading from the App Store, you'll see a quick onboarding highlighting the new features: Cloud Sync, Organizations, and enhanced Reporting. You can sign in with an existing account (Apple, Google, or email) or use the anonymous Guest Mode.

  1. Connect Your Gauge: The app asks you to select your nuclear gauge (Xplorer 2 and MC-3 Elite) or Non-Nuclear (NoNuke) mode. It connects via Bluetooth and uses the unique serial number to ensure you're connected to the correct device, which is especially helpful when multiple gauges are in the field.

  1. Join an Organization: A technician can go to their profile, select "Join Organization," and search for their company. Once the admin approves the request (instantaneously in real-time, thanks to the cloud!), the technician's role switches from "Solo" to "Technician" within the organization. Note: Please remind your admin if they haven't yet approved your join request.

Real-Time Project Visibility and Reporting

Once a technician is part of an organization, they can instantly view all past projects.

The Projects screen has three tabs: All, Active, and Completed. All readings are saved to an active project, which can then be marked as complete for the admin to review.

One of the most impressive features is the map integration.

  • Location is Key: By enabling GPS on the gauge, every reading is pinpointed on a map. Admins can select any shot and instantly see the data, allowing them to verify accuracy or request a re-take without waiting for a PDF report.

  • Satellite View: The map offers both standard and satellite views, providing a clear, highly accurate visual of where the tests were performed.

Visual Documentation with Photos

The app also allows technicians to take pictures and associate them directly with a project.

  • Set as Active: By setting a project as "Active," all subsequent readings and photos are saved to that project.

  • Seamless Sharing: Photos provide visual documentation for supervisors. If an admin needs a quick reference, they can request the photo, or the technician can long-press the image to save it directly to their phone's photos. These pictures are also included in the final PDF report.

Final Thoughts

Pranav and the team have truly pushed the limits of what a nuclear gauge app can do, transforming it into a powerful tool for real-time data management and collaboration. The MyGauge app elevates a company's ability to monitor and manage fieldwork, ensuring accurate, timely information.

The MyGauge app is available now in the App Store and the Google Play Store! If you have an Xplorer 2, an MC-3 Elite, or a NoNuke, go check it out. If you're using an older model, now is the perfect time to explore an upgrade to access this amazing new technology.
