How One Engineer is Reimagining Our Streets
Noor Saleh isn't your average researcher; she's someone who has spent years bridging the gap between the classroom and the construction site.
With a PhD under her belt and an engineering degree from the University of Beirut, she has managed over $1.7 million in research projects focused on our roads. Her hard work hasn't gone unnoticed either—she's won prestigious awards and even landed a spot on the Forbes 30 Under 30 list for her innovative work in pavement technology.
Recently, we invited Noor to join us on The Hot Mix Podcast to share her personal story, experience, and what she’s building with her business, Continuum Infrastructure Solutions.
Getting Her Hands Dirty
Noor's journey into the world of pavement started exactly where you'd expect: in the lab, doing the heavy lifting. She spent her early days sifting through rocks and measuring sticky asphalt binder by hand. By learning the "recipe" of road-building from the ground up (literally), she developed a deep respect for the materials that make up our world.
When she moved on to high-level research at NC State, she realized that all the fancy computer simulations in the world don't mean a thing if you don't understand the physical materials you're working with.
That hands-on background is still her North Star today. For Noor, data from the field isn't just a bunch of numbers to check off a list; it's the essential proof needed to make sure her high-tech predictive models actually work in the real world.
The Forbes Spotlight
Getting onto the Forbes 30 Under 30 list was no small feat. It involved a grueling six-month process where experts dug into her technical work and her business plan to make sure it was the real deal.

“One day I woke up at 6:30 am, and I see an email from Forbes,” she told us. “I was still in bed…I l look at it (mind you, I was still waking up)...[It read ‘Congratulations, you have been selected’.”
For Noor, this was more than just a personal win; it was a win for civil engineering.
Often, "high-tech" means AI or space travel, while construction is seen as "low-tech." Being recognized alongside those fields shows that the industry is changing. It proves that the very roads we drive on are just as ready for a tech revolution as the apps on our phones.
How Continuum is Changing the Game
With her company, Continuum Infrastructure Solutions, Noor is fixing a big problem: the way we check on our roads is outdated. Usually, we wait for a road to fall apart and then write a report about it.
Continuum does things differently by using AI to monitor a road's health in real time. Instead of just documenting damage, her platform predicts it. For cities and private companies, this is a game-changer. By catching problems early, they can save a fortune on repairs and keep roads in great shape for decades longer than usual.
Words of Wisdom for Future Engineers
Noor believes that because the construction world has been slow to go digital, it's actually the perfect place for young people to innovate. She sees a massive opportunity for the next generation of engineers to step up and lead. By combining technical skills with a bit of vision, young pros can help build smarter, tougher infrastructure.

“It is risky, there are challenges,” she informed us, “but it is rewarding.”

Ultimately, her goal is a world where roads can practically talk to maintenance crews themselves, making sure everything is safe and efficient without us having to wait for a human inspector to spot a pothole.
