All About the CoreDryPRO - The Next Level of Asphalt Core Drying

If you’re in the business of asphalt testing, you know that drying cores quickly and accurately is a game-changer. With the CoreDryPRO, we bring the next level of asphalt core drying evolution to the lab.

Keep reading to see what’s new, how it works, and why your lab needs one.

About The CoreDryPRO

The CoreDryPRO® boasts all-new pro features, such as a large color touchscreen display, a Drying Progress Bar, and a vacuum level indicator. Equipped with highly sophisticated, advanced electronics, a flexible vacuum pump with an external port for connecting to other lab applications, like conducting the Max Specific Gravity (Rice Test), and a modern, sleekly designed cabinet, the CoreDryPRO sets a new standard for rapid asphalt drying.

When you first open up the CoreDryPRO and get it out of the box, you’ll notice it comes with a few notable accessories and peripherals:

  • Power cable

  • AutoRice connector cable

  • Vacuum pump oil

  • Screen protectors for the new 6” touchscreen

  • Tank filter pads

  • USB flash drive

The CoreDryPRO comes with everything you’ll need to hook it up and start using it in your lab.

This piece of equipment is all about drying asphalt cores. In the past, the traditional method was fan drying or oven drying, which are typically a bit slower and, in some cases, a little lackluster. The CoreDryPRO allows you to get better and more accurate test results faster.

What’s new in the CoreDryPRO?

The first thing you'll notice is that we changed the screen. Now we have a full 6” touchscreen with swivel capabilities, which allows you to adjust the screen so you can see it while you're testing somewhere else in the lab.

The other sleek design change was the paint job. It has more of a modern look and is now scratch-resistant. The previous CoreDry model looked a lot dirtier a lot quicker.

One of the new features of the PRO model is that you can now utilize it as part of a rice test setup using the AutoRice connector cable. This is a big deal. This now gives one more option to lab techs. We wanted to make sure that labs that are using the more traditional rice test setups, and labs that have the AutoRice, can both utilize this system.

If you do have the autorice, the CoreDryPRO has a function that allows you to either manually or automatically control your AutoRice.

Setting up your CoreDryPRO

The CoreDryPRO takes a bit to warm up before you can start using it, so you’ll want to turn it on at least five to ten minutes before the start of your day. This will give the Thermo Electric that's in the bottom of the PumpSaver a chance to heat up.

Once the machine is on, the next screen you’ll see on the large touchscreen is gonna give you two options: a menu and a start option. If you're just starting the day in your lab and you're ready to dry a core, all you need to do is tap the start button to start the drying process.

When you start a test, the screen will show you the cycles, total time, and the pressure. You’ll wanna make sure that it pulls down to at least four millimeters mercury (which will show as MMHG on the screen).

There’s now a brand new percentage to dry column that we’ve added, so you can see at a glance where the test is in the drying process. Very helpful if you’re moving around a lot in your lab!

There are three things that you'll end up changing out most. The first are the tank filter pads. If you're running a lot of cores, you’ll want to change this once a week or every two weeks. The next item is the oil. To check if it needs to be replaced, look at the sight glass in the back of the machine. If the oil appears cream-colored, it’s still usable. Otherwise, it will need to be changed out.
